Stamping and Digital Go Head to Head

I needed some "Thank You" cards, so I pulled out this fun stamp set "Flower Fest" and joined it with one of the new In-Colors, "Pool Party", to create this simple card. I used the Ink/Spray/Smash technique on Splitcoast to create the background panel. My plan was that I was going to make a bunch of these cards as my "Thank You's", but the technique and coloring turned out to be more involved than I had time for. So what's a girl to do?

Well, that's when I turn to My Digital Studio. I used my Flower Fest layout and added some quick digital elements to create a similar card and then I printed my needed cards up. They were lifesavers!

 Here they are head to head...while they both were fun to create, I still love stamping, coloring and the hands on that goes with a handmade card, but when you need something cute and quick, digital can be a lifesaver.

Snowflake Newsletter Holder

Triple Layer Punch Video

I heard from one of my customers that she had a difficult time with her Triple-Layer punch, so I wanted to share this Stampin' Up! video on how to use their new punches. This was the third card we made in our Heat Embossing class this month. Adriel created this elegant card using the Lattice Bigz die and the Reinker Spread technique (click to see technique video) over gold embossed Shimmery White CS. This was another card in which everyone's Reinker Spread turned out so differently.

Fifth Avenue Reinker

 This card features one of the new 2011-2013 In-Colors, Calypso Coral, which looks great paired with Crumb Cake and Early Espresso. This card uses heat embossed images which we sponged Calypso Coral to the EB florals on the Crumb Cake panel, and used the Reinker Spread technique for the embossed florals on the Shimmery White CS. It was fun to see how everyone's reinker florals turned out, they all looked beautiful!

Faux Leather Card

Here's one of the cards we made in our Heat Embossing class this month. This card features the Faux Leather technique, which I thought created a wonderful texture and rustic look. One of the things I loved about this month's cards is how unique everyone's cards turned out, especially on the Emboss Resist cards which I'll share later this week. 

This is a great technique to use if you're creating masculine or rustic type cards.

Scallop Circle Card

I hope that you're enjoying your Saturday. I'm hoping to squeeze in a little time to today to create some cards and projects for upcoming classes. I have a ton of ideas, now I just need the time :-) I made this little Scallop Circle card to pair with the Summer Basket I shared with you earlier this week. Summer Basket Tutorial Share

I created this Summer Basket awhile back using the Paisley Petals DSP. I love this color...it's soft and looks great with Marina Mist. I gave this basket to a friend of mine filling it with a couple of Bath & Body Works lotions along with See's Candy suckers and a gift card. It made such a pretty way to give a gift. You could fill it with a set of cards, candy, whatever else you can think of that will fit inside the basket.

Grandson, Baseball and Birthday

My grandson, Jacob, just celebrated his "9th" birthday. Right now he loves baseball. He and his dad have been able to make it to a lot of the Diamondback games this season, so he knows all the players and all the baseball news.

I was going to give him one of the Build-A-Bear birthday cards from my card stash, but this year the bear thing just doesn't quite fit him, so I made him a "sports" card...sort of! This is a hybrid card since I used My Digital Studio to print the "Sunny Day" DSP and also the "#1 Champ" sentiment from the digital stamp set "Sporting". I do love this program...I say it everytime I use it, but it's true. I wanted my "#1 Champ" to fit inside a 1-3/4" circle punch, so I was able to make the #1 larger while shrinking the Champ (I love digital stamping). I rotated the Champ sentiment slightly upward, coloring the #1 in Tangerine Tango and the Champ in Pacific Point. After printing out my digital elements came punching: 1-3/4" circle punch - digital sentiment; 2" circle - Basic Gray. I snailed the digital sentiment onto the Basic Gray circle and used the Inlaid Embossing technique (See Video Tutorial) using the Big Shot and Square Lattice EB folder.

I did do some stamping using the Bring On the Cake stamp set, stamping the sentiment in Basic Black; I colored in the letters for "c-a-k-e" using Pacific Point and Tangerine Tango markers. The Tempting Turquoise DSP panel is 3x4, Tangerine Tango panel is 3-1/4x4-1/4, and the Basic Gray panel is 3-1/2x4-1/2.

Wobble Spring Card Tutorial

I haven't had much time to be "creative" lately, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a lot of creativity out in the stamping world to share with you. I saw this cute punched elephant that Kim Score created and thought that I'd pass it along your way. She has a tutorial showing you how to make this fun card on her blog. Beyond the Garden Flip-Flops

What would Summer be without gardens and flip-flops? This was such a fun card to design. The Beyond the Garden DSP helps to create that summer garden look. After making this card in one of my classes this month, we all imagined a trip to the beach or Hawaii.

The Inlaid Embossing technique (click on link to watch my How-To video) creates a great textured sole for the flip-flops and the Blossom Bouquet punch adds an airy embellishment to the card. I really like this punch...if you like scallops, this punch is very versatile!

I know I've mentioned this before, but I have to toot my husband's horn...being the graphic designer that he is, he's always so sweet to create PDF templates for me when I need something special for a class and he was kind enough to create the PDF template for the flip-flops on this card...thanks a bunch, Phil...and thank YOU for visiting. Triple Ice-Cream Scoops

This sweet Ice-Cream Cone Gatefold Card was created by Adriel and is one of the three Summer-Themed cards I taught this month. I love the triple ice-cream scoops; chocolate, strawberry and vanilla and the little rhinestone on the cherry is too cute. The Square Lattice texture impression folder creates the perfect Crumb Cake waffle cone. How About a Big Mac?

I've seen several Hamburger themed cards around and thought that I'd add my own to the mix, so here's my take on hamburgers this season. This is one of three cards I made for my Summer-Themed Card Class this month. I used MDS to create my DSP, which came out great. I used lots of punches: Word Window, Modern Label, Scallop Oval, Crimper, and the Big Shot Ovals to create the burger and all the little detailing.

Art Nouveau Blossom Petals

Do you ever end up with card parts just lying around? I do, I have little pieces and parts that pop up every now and then. One of the pieces that has been lying around for awhile is the largest flower petal from the Blossoms Petal Builder punch. Everytime I saw this little piece I kept seeing it as the focal point of some kind of Art Nouveau'ish type card. As I googled Art Nouveau images, the colors and the card began to emerge.
So what is Art Nouvea? Here's Wikipedia's definition: A style of decorative art, architecture, and design prominent in western Europe and the US from about 1890 until World War I and characterized by intricate linear designs and flowing curves based on natural forms. (Hmmm...that sounded to me like the flowing curves on the Blossom piece I was thinking about.)

So what I actually did was repunch the largest Blossoms Petal in Shimmery White CS. I used one of the little wooden tools that come with SU's rub-ons, and placed my punched petal on a piece of cardboard to dry emboss some curves onto the petal. I used the Reinker Spread technique (click on this video for a quick how-to) to create the light and dark areas on the petal. The embossed lines acted as little reservoirs for the ink to flow down into...kind of cool. The Old Olive leaves are punched from the Blossoms Petal punch, as well. I folded them in half and ran each one through the crimper, sponging Soft Suede over the surface and edges of the leaves and large reinker blossom. What a great tool the Stampamajig was to accurately place the small Charming medallion stamp around the perimeter of the circle.The rest of the supplies I used to create my card are listed below. Dust Storms and Poolside Tags

 I'm sure you all have seen pictures of the huge dust storm (aka haboob) that swept through the Phoenix area last week. It was quite a sight...very ominous looking and a little apocalyptic feeling. It came through just around dinner time. We could see the wall of dirt off to the south of us, so we piled into the car and drove about a mile south to watch it come through the mountain and fields.

It was pretty cool to watch it sweep through the mountain, it looked like a volcanic eruption.

As it got closer we decided we better head back home, there's nothing fun about getting stuck in a dust storm.

The pictures tell the best story...but within minutes the light disappeared beneath the cloud of dust, turning evening into instant darkness. As amazing as the storm was, the media totally overplayed it. We get crazy monsoon storms here with strong winds that can do quite a bit of damage, but this didn't bring much of either, but it was something you don't get to witness everyday.

It did dump a bunch of dirt everywhere, including our pool, which afterward, looked more like a pond. It took several days to get it clean again. So speaking of pools, I wanted to share with you these little Poolside Tags that I made for my stamping friends this month. I used a bunch of punches to make the embellishments. I used the Blossom Petal punch for the Pacific Point faux leather scallop flower; Itty Bitty punch for the little Tempting Turquoise 4-petal flower; Word Window punch for the stamped Whisper White sentiment; Tag Corner punch (retired) for the upper two corners of the Bashful Blue tag base; Corner Rounder for the bottom left corner of the Bashful Blue tag base; and the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border for the Tempting Turquoise, Pear Pizzazz and Not Quite Navy trims. All the colors together remind me of the colors you find around a pool (a clean pool)...very cool and summery-looking. Thanks for letting me share my Dust Storm pictures with you. See you next time!

White on White CASE

One of my stamping friends came over last week and brought with her the pieces to this card. We punched and ran pieces through the Big Shot and put our cards together in about 10 minutes. She'd done all the prep work and she'd brought a photo of the card, which made it a snap to create. I don't know who the originator of this card design is, but whoever you are the design is beautiful. I thought I'd share this CASE with all of you...I love the white on white and the embossed layers...and thanks Diane, for prepping the pieces and bringing them over. Love it!

Another Scrapbook Page

As promised, here's another scrapbook page share from Adriel's Baby Album. You can click here if you'd like to see the album cover. This page is a combination of SU and other DSP's and supplies. I believe the pink that we used on this album is actually Blush Blossom (retired). The Color combo for this page is Blush Blossom, Night of Navy, Bashful Blue, Regal Rose, So Saffron, Whisper White and Cajun Craze. Something Different

I hardly ever share any Scrapbook pages. It's probably because I don't have many to share, although I do love creating scrapbooks, especially the little mini scrap albums. My dream is to sit down for a month and just scrap away and create a wonderful book of memories.

Anyway, in May 2010 I gave a baby shower for Adriel and one of the shower activities was to create a Baby Scrapbook for her. All the sweet ladies that came were given a page that Adriel and I had designed, cut and prepped...all they had to do was copy the picture we'd taken and put their pages together. We had a great time and within an hour, her whole scrapbook had been made. All that was left was for her to add pictures and journalling. She came over a few weeks ago to pick up the album so that she could place pictures she's been taking of Allie (who BTW,  is just over a year old now) into the album. I had forgotten how cute the scrapbook had turned out. Today I found a 3 more scrapbook pages tucked in a drawer (why? I don't know!), so I thought that I'd share them here with you over the next few days. Maybe you'll be inspired to do a little bit of scrapbooking yourself. I know that I was inspired again :-)
The page above is all Stampin' Up! I used My Digital Studio to create the DSP background and added the "little cutie" sentiment, which I printed out. The little pink bird is also a digital stamp from MDS. I believe the colors I used (it's been awhile) are Garden Green, So Saffron, Regal Rose, Pretty in Pink (maybe it's Pink Pirouette), and Whisper White. Punches: Scallop Edge, Scallop Circle, Boho Blossom, 1/2" circle, Corner Rounder.

Debossed Garden Pool Party

Hope that you're staying cool...our Arizona summer heat is here, which means lots of swimming and air-conditioning.Unfortunately, I'm a little short on the air-conditioning today. Our air-conditioner stopped working last night, so I guess we'll be doing more swimming today in order to stay cool. Temps are supposed to reach around 110 degress. Yikes!! We've got someone working on it today, so hopefully it will be up and running soon. It's a little warm, to say the least. These kinds of things definitely make you thankful that someone invented the air-conditioner!

This little card popped into my mind the other night, but I had to wait until the next day to create it. While visiting Splitcoast Stampers, I discovered that this card actually is very similar to this week's Sketch Challenge. The two new In-Colors, Pool Party and Calypso Coral, are great together, especially with the Whisper White background. The daisy is a SU bulk buy leftover...I didn't have any of the Paper Daisy embellisments, but they would look great on this card. I brayered over the debossed side of the Flower Garden impression with Pool Party which makes the white Flower Garden impression pop.

Upcoming Tumbleweed Class

This cute Tart and Tangy card portfolio (312TW.431) is our upcoming 7 p.m. class at Tumbleweed Recreation Center. Adriel created this fun portfolio for the class, which was inspired by a portfolio that Dawn Olfchefske created awhile back. This month's project features the Tart and Tangy stampset (which is retiring, boohoo! but you still have until June 30 to order it), and it includes 4 cards and envelopes and uses the "Rock and Roll" stamping technique.
