Inkspiration Challenge and Free PDF and Video Tutorials

Wow, my blog heading was quite a mouthful! I hope that you're all having a wonderful day so far.

I'm excited to share this week's Inkspiration Challenge card that I made. To back up a little bit, last month we visited my in-laws. (I have one of the sweetest mother-in-laws, honestly!) While we were there she showed me an apron I'd made her. It must have been a LONG time ago because the only memory I had of the apron was the fabric, no memory of sewing it for her. She asked me to make her another one because the one she showed me was wearing out.
What a treat to have her ask me for something! She has everything. So since I'm teaching my granddaughter, Kayla, to sew, we picked out some fabric and trim and started sewing on it last week. What a fun project to do together. I wanted to make her a card to go with the apron, so this week's Inkspiration Challenge got me going...I incorporated the apron fabric and eyelet trim to the card, so that it will coordinate with the apron, and since one of the Acetate Embellishments I made in last month's Acetate Class used the same colors as the fabric, it all worked together nicely.

To top it off, I created a Free PDF tutorial for the card which I'm excited to share with all of you. Just CLICK HERE  and it will take you to the FREE PDF tutorial. Plus, I've posted a video tutorial below showing you how to use the White Stazon and Stampin' Up pastels on acetate.

I am also offering the PDF for the Acetate Class, which includes the 2 cards and these 2 cute embellishments shown below. The PDF includes a thorough and detailed list of supplies and dimensions along with step-by-step directions and lots of photographs to give you written and visual instruction. In addition, I have 3 free technique videos that feature the technique how-to's for this class. You can view the first video HERE, which is Acetate Class Part 1. Today's video is Acetate Class Part 2, I'll post Part 3 on April 15 (Tax Day, BTW!). It's the next best thing to stamping with us! Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you enjoy the video and the free tutorial!.

The cost of the PDF class (which includes directions for all 3 projects) is $3.95 and can be purchased below by clicking on the "Buy Now" button. The PDF will be emailed to you within 24 hours.

Resizing the Framed Tulip Border Tutorial

From Heidi...

I am in love with the new Framed Tulip Border Impression folder...its embossed image is too cute! I keep finding myself using it on new cards I've created. Awhile back Sharon Field shared another way to use the Framed Tulip folder...I call it resizing, but it's simply embossing smaller sizes of cardstock. Since the Framed Tulip's was created for 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 piece of cardstock, or basically a card front, this little resizing technique makes the Tulip folder a lot more versatile.

I made a bunch of tags using the resizing technique and it made for such cute tags. Several of our stamping friends have purchased the tulip folder, and so we wanted to create a video tutorial on how to use it besides just the obvious card front (which is beautiful!).

Thanks for watching the video and for visiting our blog! We hope that you have a wonderful week.

Inbetween Holidays

From Heidi...
We hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We had a fun day eating turkey and all the yummy side dishes that go with it, along with great fellowship with friends and family.

We've finished up our classes for this year, so we're busy preparing for 2011... (although I still have to make all my Christmas cards to send out...I better get on it here soon!) Our first class in January is a Brayering class at Tumbleweed Recreation Center, Tuesday, 1/4 (10 a.m.- 308TW.231/ 7 p.m. 309TW.231) . This tall brayered Medallion card is based on a card I cased from Claudia Perry and is one that we'll be creating. I love this technique and the effect it adds to cards.

One-Layer Cards

From Heidi...We offer classes at Chandler's Tumbleweed Recreation Center a couple of times each month. I've been preparing for our upcoming classes in July and August. This is one of the cards we'll be making at our July 6 class. The theme is One-Layered cards...which was fun to create for. It sounds easy...you know, it's just one layer...but to make that one layer fun and interesting is the challenge! I wanted each of the 3 cards to be different, which they all ended up being. I did end up adding a button to each card :-) Hope you're all enjoying your week and thanks for looking!

Another My Digital Studio Hybrid Card

From Heidi...This Hybrid Card is my favorite of the three that I made. I love the colors in this watercolor image and the tall vertical feel. I used My Digital Studio's digital Summertime Splendor DSP. The more I'm using MDS, the more I'm seeing all of the possibilities with this program. The ability to resize the downloads make it super versatile, because you're not limited to one size stamp or one sized image on the DSP. I'm looking forward to our Hybrid Classes next month. I can't wait to share the cards with everyone.Adriel bought herself a copy of MDS with some of her birthday money, so when she's got a little more time to play with it, I'm looking forward to seeing what she comes up with. She's usually is a little braver than I am when it comes to the technical stuff.
Cardstock: Cajun Craze, Bashful Blue, Early Espresso, Very Vanilla
Ink: Basic Black, Chocolate Chip (sponging)
Punches: Photo Corner, Itty Bitty Shapes

My Digital Studio Hybrid Card

From Heidi...
I've been designing and creating the last few weeks, so now I have some new cards and projects to share with you. I've been creating for a Hybrid Class we'll be offering next month. I used My Digital Studio's new Summertime Splendor download DSP paper to create the focal point of this card. Stampin' Up's new core color, Cherry Cobbler, really sets the watercolor image off. I just got my order with the new colors a few days ago, so it's been fun to play with the new DSP and stampsets. I also received the new 2010-2011 Idea and Catalog book...it's full of new and fun stuff to create with. Thanks for stopping by and visiting us!

Cardstock: Pink Pirouette, Cherry Cobbler, Rose Red
Ink: Basic Black
Big Shot: Perfect Polka Dots Impression Folder
Punches: Scallop Trim Border, Modern Label, Word Window

New My Digital Studio Download

From Heidi...Stampin' Up! just came out with a new My Digital Studio download called Summertime Splendor and I am in love with this paper. The watercolor flowers on the front of this card are one of the digital images...this digital DSP is beautiful! My dad was a watercolorist who painted beautiful landscapes and waterfront images...so I think it's pretty cool to be able to print up a beautiful watercolor image, stamp a sentiment on it and put together this hybrid card in a matter of minutesTo create this card I opened MDS, and chose the square punch. I resized it to create a 3-1/2" square and filled it with the Summertime Splendor digital paper, printed it out, trimmed...stamped sentiment in basic black, and put the card together...in less than 15 minutes!I love stamping and I also love digital creating, as well. The combination of the 2 creates fun hybrid cards. I am looking forward to playing around with this new digital paper and coming up with some hybrid cards. Stay tuned for a hybrid card class in the near future!

Party Favors

From Heidi...

We have a fun class coming up next Thursday at Tumbleweed called Party Favor Holders. I thought I'd share these fun little containers we created with you. They all can hold candy, a note, or other little gift items. They can make an ordinary gift a special gift just by the packaging. We created the Sour Cream Container using the Razzleberry Lemonade DSP. I used the Tart and Tangy stamp set for the flower. The Genie Bag was decorated with the new Sweet Pea DSP, which I have come to love...I used the Wide Oval Punch to create the handle opening at the top.The Cottage Wall DSP makes this ordinary pineapple can look so cute. Just by adding some ribbon to the pull tab on this Pop Top Can gives it a fun and special look. The Piece of Cake uses a print-out template which is stamped to create your own DSP.
If you're looking for something fun and creative to do next Thursday evening, please join us at Tumbleweed, 6:30-9 PM.
