Newsy Tuesday

Here's what we've got that's new this week!

Adriel's card for the THS Color Challenge #2:

Remember those flowers I showed you that I made awhile back? I told you I was going to do something with them, remember? I decided to incorporate them into my card for this month's THS Color Challenge (which BTW, is open for more participation until midnight tomorrow!). I had a ton of fun with this card! More than that... TONS! =)
I mixed up some homemade shimmer mist using a small travel size hairspray container, some alcohol and white shimmer paint (shake, shake, shake and you've got your own shimmer mist). I masked the So Saffron CS background with 1/2" punched circles all over the CS in a polka dot pattern. I used a temporary adhesive to stick the circles on. Then I spritzed the CS with the shimmer mist, allowed it to dry, then removed the circles. I ended up with this fun shimmery, polka-dot background. It's a bit hard to see in the picture, but it's TONS of fun... you gotta try it! =) I also added even more texture by distressing the edges of the So Saffron CS with an edge distresser.

Like I said, it was tons of fun and I love how it turned out! =)

Here's a bunch of invitations to the preparation party (for the new baby coming soon). We made pocket invitations with the color combo of Melon Mambo, Pretty in Pink, Basic Black and Whisper White. The sheer flowers are 3 layers of 5-petal punched vellum. Makes it a bit more delicate looking. =) We'll be sending these out soon! Obviously, I'm having a girl! I'm sure with all the pink and flowers it's hard to guess. =P We have decided on a name, but I can't decide how to spell it. When I do, I'll let you know what it is!!

I'm almost done with the baby boy flip album I was just getting started on last week. This project has turned out to not be as simple as I had initially thought it would be, but that's how it goes sometimes. There were measurements missing from the directions and some other info, so it was almost like starting from scratch at some points. At least now, the information is all complete (I think) and making another one won't be such a big deal. =)

I'm sure we'll be working this week on some new projects. I'm not exactly sure what at the moment! I guess I'll just have to surprise you and myself and save all the rest of the news for next week!

Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful day! =)

A Pocket Photo Brag Book

From Heidi...One of the ladies that came to our SAS last month generously shared this Pocket Card pattern with me, and I really enjoyed creating this little book based on the pattern. Thank you, Susan! I changed the dimensions a little, so that I could include a gift card holder in one of the pockets. The basic pattern dimensions are: 5-1/4" x 10-1/4", scored at 4, 8, 8-1/4". My finished dimensions are 4-1/8"x5-1/4" and fits inside an A2 envelope.
Instead of using an envelope for the inside pockets, I made my own using DS paper. I created this as a Mother's Day Photo Brag-Gift Card Holder Book (whew! that's a mouthful). I printed the inside greeting and then snailed it into the inside flap of the card. This would make a great gift for someone...with little pictures included in the photo card envelope and then a gift card in the other envelope. What a fun project! This will be a fun thing to do at one of our Stamp Club/Project Classes. Thanks for looking.
Cardstock and Ink: Pacific Point, Barely Banana, Rose Red, Old Olive, Whisper White, Basic Black
DS paper
Stamp Set: Little Pieces; Seeing Spots; Yummy; All Scallops (I also used a non-SU acrylic stamp set for the belly band)
Accessories: Punches - Scallop Edge, Tab, various circle punches; Old Olive ribbon, rivets, brad

New Mother's Day Card

From Heidi...
Here's a new Mother's Day card using the Fifth Avenue Floral Stampset and paper piecing. I love the soft grey and Barely Banana together. I used a blue accent and sponged Creamy Caramel around the edges to give it a Victorian and vintage look. The pearl embellishments give it an antique look, as well. Thanks for looking!Add Image

Another Mother's Day Card

From Adriel:
My mom showed you the Mother's Day cards she made last week and I wanted to share one of the cards I made as well.

I used THIS CARD LAYOUT that I showed you last week sometime. I simply made the card horizontal instead of vertical and it gives the card a totally different look! I did this primarily to fit my sentiment on the card stock, which was quite a bit wider than the sentiment I used on the original card layout. This way, the sentiment fit and I just moved the flowers as well. =)
I love the pink and the Bella Rose designer paper on this card and our free stamp set, Polka Dot Punches, that we got during Sale-a-Brations looks great. I also heat embossed the sentiment, so it's slightly raised and shiny.
On a slightly different note, the new Stampin' Up! Occasions Mini Catalog is out and they have this adorable new die for the Big Shot! You can see what I'm talking about by clicking HERE (and go to page 16). Beyond cute, right?! There's even a couple stamp sets that coordinate with this die... doubly cute! Well, we don't have a Big Shot, so it would be kind of hard to use, ya know what I mean? (BTW, my birthday is May 5th, and I'm going to put aside my birthday mula towards a Big Shot.) My mom and I did get the Oval All set along with the new Scallop Oval Punch and the Walk in the Park designer paper and we are enjoying those! In fact, for our SAS and Stamp Club this month, we'll be using some of that new paper and the new stamps and punch, so you don't want to miss it! You can check our newsletter for the dates and times for these events.

Anyway, more to share with you later! Thanks for checking in and have a great day! =D

Happy Mother's Day

From Heidi...
Adriel and I worked on some Mother's Day cards last week. I love the 3-D flower effect, so I made 4 cards using it. The pink and brown card with a touch of blue had a Victorian and vintage look to it, so I sponged the blue with Creamy Caramel to make it look more vintage.

We lived in No. CA for almost 15 years among all the beautiful Victorian Homes. These cards reminded me of those homes...and since the flowers are 3-D, I told Adriel they reminded me of the 3-story Victorians. It's kind of a joke...because she was the one who posted my other dimensionalled flower on Etsy. One of the tags she gave it was triple decker, or 3-decker...something like that, so it had struck me kind of funny. So these cards are known as the 3-D, 3-Story, Triple Decker Victorian cards. Thanks again for looking!
